There are four main medical imaging services available at Barwon Health North:
Appointments: Walk-in or by appointment
An X-ray shows images of the inside of the body. X-rays are typically requested of the skeleton and can be used to examine soft tissues in the chest and abdomen. Multiple views from different directions are usually taken of bones.
Appointments: Walk-in or by appointment
Computered Tomography (CT) combines X-ray and digital technology to create detailed 2D and 3D images of most types of body structures. Images can be created of all areas of the body including bone, blood vessels, and soft tissue.
By appointment. Bookings can be made by contacting 4215 0300
Diagnostic Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to capture live images from the inside of the body. The sound waves reflect from tissue surfaces and provide signals from which SE and 3D images are formed. Ultrasound is especially useful for imaging of blood vessels, soft tissues and babies. Most ultrasounds take around 30 minutes to perform.
Appointments: Walk-in or by appointment
An OPG is an X-ray that shows panoramic views of the mouth giving information on the teeth and the bones of the upper and lower jaw.
An OPG takes approximately five minutes. No preparation is necessary for the test other than the removal of all jewellery in the region of your head, face and neck, such as piercings, earrings, hair clips, necklaces and any dentures.
